Greece’s Eleni Daniilidou won the final of the 2008 Moorilla Hobart International in a walkover.
In a dramatic turn of events, Russia’s Vera Zvonareva withdrew from the final after rolling her left ankle during practice late this afternoon. After receiving treatment, she decided to withdraw from the final with Greece’s Eleni Daniilidou.
It was a disappointing end for Zvonareva who has been in impressive form. A disappointed Zvonareva fronted fans for a brief on-court interview to discuss her injury. Eleni Daniilidou was then announced as the 2008 Moorilla Hobart International champion in a walk over.
Zvonareva will travel to Melbourne tomorrow for an MRI scan. At this stage it’s not known if this injury will keep the Russian No.23 out of the Australian Open.
In the doubles, the Spanish pair of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual were too good for Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) and Jasmin Woehr (GER) defeating them 6-2 6-4.
