Urszula Radwanska has knocked world No.30 Francesca Schiavone out of qualifying at the Moorilla Hobart International.
In the upset of the day, Radwanska, ranked 126 in the world, defeated Schiavone 6-3 7-6(4).
“I played really well, it was really tough, the weather was windy. It is tough to play here (in Hobart), sometimes it is hot, sometimes cold,” Radwanska said after the match.
“She (Schiavone) plays good tennis, is a good player. Also my sister (Agnieszka Radwanska) has lost to her three times, so it was good to win.”
Although Victorian Marija Mirkovic lost 6-2 6-1, she gained valuable experience from her match against world No.75 Edina Gallovits (ROU).
The 18 year old now has her sights set on Australian Open qualifying being held at Melbourne Park later this week.
In other matches Lourdes Dominguez Lino (ESP) was too strong for the No.2 seed Marta Domachowska (POL), and Stefani Voegele (SUI) defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE) in a tough three-setter match.
