Alona Bondarenko has won a place in the quarterfinals of the Moorilla Hobart International after beating Frenchwoman Alize Cornet.
Bondarenko, from Ukraine, won 6-4 3-6 6-2 in a second round match lasting two hours and 16 minutes in sweltering heat and strong winds.
The tournament fourth seed will next meet the winner of Tuesday’s match between Chinese players Shuai Peng and seventh seed Jie Zheng.
Eighth seed Argentine Gisela Dulko is next up on court one against Austrian Tamira Paszek for a place in the quarterfinals.
Top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues headlines the second round night match against Russian Alla Kudryavtseva.
That match will be followed by the new Aussie doubles pairing of Jelena Dokic and Alicia Molik, against Yung-Jan Chan of Taipei and Monica Niculescu of Romania.
