Fourth seeded Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko has upset top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues to progress to a final showdown with hard hitting Israeli Shahar Peer.
Bondarenko recovered from a set down to beat the Spaniard 4-6 6-3 6-4, claiming afterwards that she was always confident of her chances despite her early difficulties.
“I was not worried about being down in the first set because you have two more sets to win the game,” Bondarenko said.
Peer was far more impressive in her semifinal win, the second seed crushing unseeded Italian Sara Errani 6-2 6-0.
Peer holds a 3-2 head-to-head advantage over Bondarenko heading into the final, with the latter winning their last meeting on clay.
