Second seed Shahar Peer has secured a place in the singles final today.
Peer was too strong for unseeded Sara Errani in the semifinals, winning in straight sets, 6-2 6-0.
“It was tougher than it looked actually. The first set was very, very close … but I’m very happy. I think I was playing better and better as the game was going and I think I finished very good so I’m happy about it,” Peer said.
The world No.30 has had a good start to 2010, reaching the semifinals in Auckland last week and now playing in her first Hobart final, which she says is good preparation going into the Australian Open.
“It’s a lot of matches and I hope to play very good tomorrow and maybe to finish it with a title. It’s a good beginning of the year but I need to play my best tennis next week because this (Australian Open 2010) is an important tournament and a big tournament,” Peer said.
Peer will face the winner of tonight’s match between No.4 seed Alona Bondarenko and top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues tomorrow and says she doesn’t mind who she plays.
“I know it’s a very common answer but I don’t mind because I think both of them are very tough, they are very tough opponent and they’re going to have a good match tonight so who wins, wins,” Peer said.
Peer and Bondarenko have met on five occasions, with Peer leading the head to head count 3-2. They last met in 2009 on clay with Bondarenko winning in straight sets.
The Israeli and Medna Garrigues have only met on one occasion in Canberra in 2006. Medina Garrigues won the outing in three sets.
