Sophie Ferguson has received the final wildcard into the main draw of the Moorilla Hobart International.
Ferguson, currently ranked 147 in the world, will be the fourth Australian in the main draw, joining Jelena Dokic, Alicia Molik and Olivia Rogowska.
Speaking following a practice session at the Domain Tennis Centre today Ferguson said she is looking forward to getting some tough matches in this week.
“I feel happy with the way I’ve been hitting the ball and feeling quite confident so I’m really looking forward to playing and to win two or three [matches] would be great,” Ferguson said.
“I was quite happy with my year last year, I feel like I’ve set myself up for 2010 and hopefully I’ll have a good year and have a lot of tough matches.”
Starting 2009 ranked outside the top 300 in the world, Ferguson won her third ITF singles title in August at a USD$25,000 event in Quanzhou, China.
During the year she won matches at Roland Garros, the Brisbane International and Medibank International Sydney qualifying and reached three finals and two semifinals on the ITF circuit.
The 23 year old enjoyed significant doubles success in 2009, winning two ITF titles in Gifu and Brno with Aiko Nakamura and Trudi Musgrave respectively, and reaching a further three ITF semifinals and one quarterfinal.
Ferguson’s draw and first round opponent will be decided at the official draw, being held at the Domain Tennis Centre this afternoon.
