Australia’s No.4 ranked female tennis player Sophie Ferguson will lead a host of the country’s rising stars in the opening round of qualifying at the Moorilla Hobart International.
Five Australians including Ferguson, Jessica Moore, Monika Wejnert and Optus 18s Australian Championships winner Isabella Holland and runner-up Ashling Sumner will attempt to claim a place in the main draw of the tournament.
The players will be hoping to join fellow Australians Jarmila Groth, former world No.8 Alicia Molik, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sally Peers and Australian Open Play-off winner Olivia Rogowska in the main draw.
The international field in qualifying will feature top seed and world No.75 Olga Govortsova (BLR), Simona Halep (ROU), Tamira Paszek (AUT) and 2009 US Open quarterfinalist Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR), the sister of former champion Alona Bondarenko.
