Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) is one win away from her first WTA singles title after reaching the final of the Moorilla Hobart International.
After leading USA to victory in last week’s Hopman Cup, Mattek-Sands continued her impressive start to 2011 by overcoming Shuai Peng (CHN) in a tough three-set match, 4-6 6-1 6-1 in 1 hour and 47 minutes.
Despite dropping her first set of the tournament, Mattek-Sands is expected to be full of confidence heading into the final where she will meet the winner of the second semifinal between No.5 seed Klara Zakopalova (CZE) and Australian star Jarmila Groth.
Currently ranked No.59 in the world, the American is also projected to break into the top 50 after advancing to the final in Hobart.
Following tomorrow’s final, Mattek-Sands will head to Melbourne where she has been drawn to meet a qualifier in the first round of next week’s Australian Open.
