Top seed Marion Bartoli (FRA) and former champion Alicia Molik (AUS) will have to wait to claim a place in the quarterfinals after their second round matches were postponed to day five of the Moorilla Hobart International.

Courts are being dried in preparation for day five of the Moorill Hobart International. An official commencement time will be announced shortly.

Their matches were among several cancelled on day four as rain denied any play in both sessions at the Domain Tennis Centre.

Despite the unfortunate weather, Tournament Director Michael Roberts was confident that the tournament would return to schedule and conclude by Saturday.

“There are a number of options that will be considered to ensure the tournament is completed on time,” Roberts said.

“Matches can begin earlier than originally scheduled, and with clearer skies expected this weekend we may also play the semifinals and final on the same day – with a suitable rest between matches of course.

“There are only fourteen singles matches remaining, and we will have the opportunity to use three match courts if required.”

Molik will headline action on Centre Court on day five against No.7 seed Sara Errani of (ITA), with the winner to challenge either Olga Govortsova (BLR) or Shuai Peng (CHN) for a place in the quarterfinals.

Bartoli will face the talented Elena Vesnina (RUS) in the early afternoon match, with the winner to meet either No.5 seed Klara Zakopalova (CZE) and Alberta Brianti (ITA) in another exciting night session on day five.

After winning the first set on day three, No.4 seed Roberta Vinci (ITA) will resume her match after two days against British No.1 Elena Baltacha and will face No.6 seed Jarmila Groth (AUS) in the afternoon’s quarterfinal.
