Rising stars Monika Wejnert and Ashling Sumner will begin their quest to reach the main draw of the Moorilla Hobart International tomorrow after rain suspended play in Hobart this evening.
Wejnert will resume her match against Shuai Zhang (CHN), with the 18 year-old leading Zhang 1-0 in the first set. Sumner will face Corinna Dentoni (ITA) in her first round match and will be hoping to join fellow Australians Jessica Moore and Sophie Ferguson in the second qualifying round.
After a tough victory in her opening match, Moore will meet the winner of No.2 seed Simona Halep (ROU) and Xinyun Han of China. Moore lost to Han in the first qualifying round of last year’s Australian Open.
Ferguson will hope to continue her impressive form and will play in the final Centre Court match tomorrow against the winner of the first round match between Lesya Tsurenko and fellow Ukranian Kateryna Bondarenko.
In other second round matches scheduled tomorrow, Mandy Minella (LUX) will meet world No.75 Olga Govortsova (BLR) and No.3 seed Tamira Paszek (AUT) will face Stephanie Dubois of Canada.
