Gajdosova on her way back

After several months out of the game, 2011 Moorilla Hobart International champion Jarmila Gajdosova is happy with her preparation ahead of this week in the Apple Isle and the first Grand Slam of the year. The 25-year-old carries some form having defeated world No. 16 Roberta Vinci in Brisbane, her first match since September.

“I definitely hope to get some matches under my belt here [in Hobart] and get ready for the Australian Open,” said Gajdosova.

“Brisbane was a good start. I hadn’t played since September so it was my first competitive match for a long time and beating No. 16 in the world wasn’t too bad. It was a good start and hopefully I get better.”

A former world No. 25, Gajdosova is looking to reclaim some of her earlier form.

“It’s difficult but I’ve been training for three weeks and I’m hoping that match practice will give me a bit more confidence and more preparation than just the training part,” she said.

“I decided to come here because I’ve been here a few years, obviously I won this tournament. It’s lovely to come back and I know lots of people here now and they were good enough to give me a wildcard which is a big help,” she said.

Gajdosova plays Romina Oprandi of Switzerland first up on centre court at 11am.
