The top seeds in the qualifying draw are on track to progress to the main draw.
Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella, the No 1. seed in qualifying, exhibited an array of powerful ground strokes and cross-court winners to defeat wildcard entry, Yuxuan Zhang of China.
The match started on serve before Minella turned up the heat to take the first set 6-2. Despite Zhang’s attempts to out-play Minella in the early games of the second, Minella advanced forcefully to take the second set 6-3.
In other matches Arruabarrena- Vecino of Spain, the No. 2 qualifying seed defeated Columbia’s Duque-Marino 6-2 7-5 while Spain’s Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor won 6-3 6-3 against her Chinese opponent, world No. 189, Ying-Ying Duan of China.
Spain’s Silvia Soler-Espinosa, No. 4 seed in the qualifying, played a tough match against the left-handed South African Chanel Simmonds, eventually defeating her 7-5 7-6.
In the final match of the day, USA’s Lauren Davis overcame Israel’s Julia Glushko 6-4 6-0 to consolidate a place in the main draw.
