A right wrist injury has forced Italian sixth seed Flavia Pennetta to withdraw from the 2014 Hobart International.

“We hope that Flavia recovers from her injury in time for the Australian Open and we hope to see her back in Hobart next year,” tournament director Mark Handley said.

“Unfortunately I felt some pain in my wrist in Perth and it hasn’t had time to recover so sadly I have to withdraw from the Hobart International. I really enjoy playing this tournament and hope to be back next year,” Pennetta explained.

Belgian An-Sophie Mestach will take her place in the main draw as a lucky loser.
