Tournament organisers have been forced to abandon today’s planned Kids Tennis Day due to strong winds and unpredictable weather in Hobart.

Activities such as a jumping castle, MLC Tennis Hot Shots mini-courts and a serve speed challenge will no longer take place, but Nickelodeon characters such as Spongebob Squarepants and Dora the Explorer will still be at the Domain Tennis Centre during the day, as will former world no. 1 and three-time Australian Open champion Martina Hingis.

Tournament Director Mark Handley was forced to make the decision, in light of the strong winds swirling around Hobart.

“We made the decision to put the health and safety of all of our spectators first,” Handley said.

Handey is still hopeful of completing round two qualifying matches, which are scheduled to begin at 10am.

Entry to the Domain Tennis Centre is free for all.
